Optimization Tips To Get Your Website Ready For The Search Engines

What is search engine optimization? Why should you be concerned about it as a small business owner? For one, search engine optimization is an ideal way to reach your target audiences by using relevant search terms and custom content to boost your page relevancy. This means that your website will gain more exposure with minimal effort on your part. This article will outline several search engine optimization tips that are easy to implement.

Consider using a trackback plugin on your blog so you can know who's linking to your site and which content is attracting the most attention. This is a great way to keep track of which posts are working the best and which you should put more effort into boosting the keywords of.

When marketing a product online, make sure your site is as useable and accessible as possible. If your website has problems with the code or can't be viewed by certain browsers, you will lose visitors and therefore sales. Very few people will go to the trouble of switching browsers just to use your site.

If you want to be successful at SEO, make sure you know your audience! Use the Google Analytics application (or any other similar website) to break down where your website traffic is coming from. This will help reveal which of your SEO tactics are successful and which are not.

When you are more pragmatic about generating visitors for your website, you will get better results. For search engine optimization, avoid heavy use of flash, or avoid it altogether if possible. The same goes for frames and the use of things like AJAX. This is because different pages or elements in flash or similar set-ups will all share the same link, rather than having differentiated links. This makes it harder for search engines to find.

Think of all keywords related to your site. Even if you don't attempt to rank for every keyword you can think of, having a list of related keywords can help search engine results by allowing you to make best use of the keyword tag and by giving you even more possible ways to get visitors.

It is easy to see how search engine optimization is a boon for small business owners. Websites are often neglected by people that are busy with other aspects of running their business, but it is an easy way to bring new customers to you without actively reaching out. If you follow this article's advice, you may find yourself with more demand than you know what to do with!

Google Testing Ads at the Bottom of the Page?

Would you pay for Google Ads at the bottom of the search results? Search Engine Land is reporting that this is exactly what Google may be working on. While this may be good news for Organic Search, do you think that it will hurt Google's bottom line? Research shows that people usually only click on the top 2 or 3 search results. Kind of makes you wonder what Google is up to. Perhaps a model where ads at the bottom have a lower CPC. Please feel free to post comments and let us know what you think.

Why Market Online?

Businesses that do not market online are missing out.  This is especially true for small businesses that do not have the resources or technical expertise to get their website up and running.  Even if a business has a website, it is often not optimized for the search engines.  A website is essentially worthless as a marketing tool unless it shows up in the top page of search results.

Many small businesses neglect SEO because of the costs, but they should ask themselves how much are new customers worth?  Often, SEO costs pay for themselves due to the new customers and leads that it generates.

Lastly, if you do hire an SEO firm, ask for examples of their work.  Consider using someone local if they have proven results.  An inexperienced online marketer can do permanent damage to your site's search engine rankings.
